HistorySouthSTAR Services was formed when a small group of people came together in 1950 to promote educational services for their children with mental disabilities. As they matured, there was an increasing need for vocational services and in 1975, SouthSTAR opened its first training center. The 80's brought an increasing demand for services and expansion of its facilities. As the need for services has grown, SouthSTAR has continued to grow and expand. Today, SouthSTAR provides services to over 300 adults with developmental disabilities, 26 of whom reside in our four CILA homes. With the support of the community, corporations and foundations, SouthSTAR will continue to fulfill its mission of providing choices and opportunities for persons with developmental disabilities, which enrich their lives and maximize independence in the pursuit of vocation, community living and social integration. |
