About SouthSTARSouthSTAR Services is a 501 (c)(3) nonprofit located in Chicago Heights, Illinois which provides developmental training, seniors services, supported employment, community employment, community living services including CILA and intermittent CILA services, home based support services and advocacy to individuals with developmental disabilities. Our services are individualized based upon the individual's wants and dreams. Our goal is to improve the lives of families with disabilities. SouthSTAR Services school was formed in 1950 by a small group of parents responding to the special and educational needs of their children. In 1975, as the students of the school matured and their needs for vocational services increased, SouthSTAR Services opened its training center. The 80's brought an increasing demand for services and long expansion of its faculties. Today, SouthSTAR Services serves over 400 individuals with developmental disabilities. SouthSTAR Services employs over 130 caring staff, who are responsible for the training and supervision of its individuals. Direct care staff includes those in our community living, job placement, production and rehabilitation programs. They are trained to work with persons with developmental disabilities.
